History

Projected by an atheist, it took several years for the cathedral to be consecrated. While awing structure, encourage respect of the entrance - the first an open-sided hall by the statues of the evangelists, the synoptic on the one hand and on the other John, and then a dark and lonely tunnel, leading, naturally-lit main nave is dominated by three angels hanging in various sizes, giving the illusion of depth heavenly perspective - the cathedral has seen relatively little use, because the echoing acoustics, jumbled and makes it almost impossible to hear the sermons, and natural lighting in a very sunny city is not matched by ventilation adequate. Cathedral of Brasilia, brazil, cathedral, unique building, unique, unique architecture,
This concrete-framed hyperboloid structure, seems with a glass roof to reach, open, to heaven. On May 31, 1970, the structure of the cathedral was completed, and only the 70 m diameter of the circular area were visible. Niemeyer project of Cathedral of Brasília is based in the hyperboloid of revolution which sections are asymmetric. The hyperboloid structure itself is a result of 16 identical assembled concrete columns. These columns, having hyperbolic section and weighing 90 t, represent two hands moving upwards to heaven. The Cathedral was dedicated on May 31, 1970.
